Mersea Island Festival 2020

Monday 18th May 2020

With great regret we must announce that this year’s Mersea Island Festival will not take place.

Although the Festival is still almost three months away, and restrictions may have eased further by the end of August, there is continuing uncertainty around the Coronavirus, and commitments are required now by the Trust for the Festival to go ahead.

We know that for many the Festival is the highlight of their year and that many people will be disappointed. We have held off making this decision as long as possible but in these unprecedented times it has been made with both the safety of our Festival family as well as the future of the Festival in mind.

It’s particularly disappointing as we were looking forward to celebrating the 40th Festival. But we can still do that – just a year later than planned, when we can hold an event of the quality everyone expects.

Over the coming days we’ll be contacting those who had booked for this year to arrange any refunds, as well as the volunteers and others who had offered to help deliver and be a part of the Festival. We thank them for their support and ask them to please bear with us while we organise this. Further details can be found here.

While we appreciate that not everyone has access to the internet, we’re looking at ways that we might be able to get together with our Festival friends online, and please keep an eye on your emails, the website and our Facebook page for more details as we have them.

But let’s face it, it won’t be the same as meeting everyone on Mersea, which we look forward to doing again in 2021. In the meantime, please stay safe and look after yourselves and those around you.

With very best wishes,

The Trustees of the Mersea Island Festival Trust
